Water/Water Type Heat Pumps

Water/Water Type Heat Pumps Principle

Surface water, ground water or underground water are the sources for this type of heat pump. From a reservoir, usually a well, we take the water and let it flow through the heat pump exchanger where we deprive a part of heat from it and then return the water back into the ground using a second, absorbing well. Distance between the two drills should be 10m at minimum, preferably down the underground water direction - first source well, then absorbing well.

However, the site must provide conditions suitable for building the multiple-well system. If the conditions are met, most of the customer will prefer this solution to the other heat pump types. Building the necessary sources is not expensive and mostly even the existing well will do.

These types of heat pumps are the most effective, as the average temperature of the ground water moves around 10°C, independently on the surface temperature fluctuations. As for the utilizability it is high effective energy source. Heating factor moves around number 6, meaning up to 80% savings.

Before the installation, several measurements need to be taken. The heat pump needs sufficiently abundant source of nature water, in the case of a typical family house from 0.5l per second.

Also, hydro-ecological examination of the well yield must be carried out using a well test. The progress is simple. Water is pumped off the well for 14 days at the necessary speed using a submersible pump. Provided nor the well get exhausted, nor the neighbour wells’ level is affected, you are free to install the heat pump. Based on this well test you get ground water utilization certificate automatically.
